Meet Michael Breitman, Your ActionCOACH Facilitator of GrowthCLUB

In 2006 Michael R. Breitman, founded ActionCOACH of Metro New York. The company is a franchisee of ActionCOACH USA, Inc. ActionCOACH is the world’s leading business coaching firm, with more than 1,000 coaches in more than 70 countries. Mr. Breitman serves successful business owners and executives in the New York City metropolitan area and in Berkshire county Massachusetts. Since joining ActionCOACH, Mr. Breitman has assisted numerous clients to grow their businesses and create jobs in their communities.

In 2002 Mr. Breitman, founded BreitBand Consulting, LLC as a platform for offering consulting services to small and medium size businesses. The services offered are focused on operational and infrastructure issues with a strong emphasis on the practical application of technology in day to day business operations. In addition, BreitBand offers turn-around and start-up services.

Prior to Breitband, Mr. Breitman was President, CEO and Sole Shareholder of Brookville Corporation and related companies. Brookville was one of the leading Men’s Neckwear companies in the United States, with facilities in Hempstead, New York and New York City. Michael completed the sale of the company’s assets and the related wind down of the firm’s operations in August 2001. During his seventeen years with the company, Michael steadily added operating responsibility for each of the firm’s functional areas, succeeding to CEO in 1990. Under his leadership, the company more than doubled in size to more than $14,000,000 in sales, added several brand licenses and relocated its manufacturing and distribution facilities from New York City to Hempstead. Mr. Breitman’s experience as a consultant prior to joining Brookville helped the company achieve a number of leading positions within the domestic Men’s Neckwear industry:
• First Neckwear Company to offer its entire product line by color rather than pattern.
• One of the first Men’s fashion companies to embrace EDI technology.
• One of the first companies to become a truly Quick Response (QR) supplier within the fashion industry.
• First Neckwear Company to develop and maintain a database tracking customer preferences using data mining techniques.
• Use of QR and the company’s database enabled Brookville to offer merchandise that outperformed its competitor’s products at retail.

Prior to joining Brookville in 1984, Mr. Breitman was a founding principal of Information Processing Directions, Inc. (IPDI) in the Chicago suburb of Northbrook, Illinois. IPDI, a management consulting firm, specialized in information processing systems for manufacturers and distributors. During his ten years with IPDI, Mr. Breitman served clients located in such diverse locations as Napa, California and Columbus, Georgia. His diverse list of clients included an aircraft part manufacturer, a pump manufacturer and a distributor of automotive accessories.

IPDI’s philosophy and practice of staffing with business people who had computer skills rather than computer experts with little or no experience in business, lead to several turn-around engagements. Clients at IPDI were provided with systems solutions tailor made for their operations and did not have to adapt their business to the systems. In order to better serve the firm’s clients, Mr. Breitman spearheaded the development of IPDI’s MRP/II software package. This package, called PIMS, was a closed-loop, fully integrated suite of programs, which allowed installation specific tailoring. Today, PIMS would be classified as an ERP application.

Before founding IPDI, Michael was briefly employed as a consultant by National CSS, one of the early computer time-sharing companies. Michael started his career as an architectural designer at the Chicago office of Skidmore Owings and Merrill. This diverse and eclectic set of experiences has continually provided Michael with a unique point of view regarding business practice and methods. This point of view is grounded, bottom-line oriented and slanted toward a very practical use of information technology (IT) in business. This includes:
• An understanding of how internal reorganization and procedure modifications must be presented and implemented in order to succeed.
• An understanding of the ways in which IT and operations integrate with each other.
• An understanding of the long-term value of building, maintaining and productive use of a company database.
• Understanding the value of fitting the systems, both IT and procedural, to the business, rather than the opposite.
• A generally pragmatic approach to effective business operations.

EDUCATION

Mr. Breitman holds a Bachelor of Architecture (1969) and Master of Science in Architecture (1972) from Illinois Institute of Technology.

PERSONAL

Mr. Breitman resides in Mineola, NY with his wife Tammy. They have two daughters and five grand-children. Michael is past President of the Neckwear Association of America. He also was a Vice-President and Board Member of The Muttontown Club. He currently serves as the treasurer of the Stockbridge Golf Club. He is associated with several charitable organizations including UJA-Federation, Winthrop-University Hospital and The Cancer Center For Kids of Winthrop University Hospital. The UJA-Federation of New York named Michael Neckwear Manufacturer of the Year in 1996. In addition, Mr. Breitman is a member of the Mineola Lions.
